Cast members from the London production of WarHorse participated in The National Theatre’s Jubilee Salute to The Queen by bringing Joey (the horse puppet featured in the show) to the Olivier flytower at the National Theatre.

Following the smash-hit success of WarHorse, Handspring Puppet Company has scaled up production of the horse puppets. These puppets, destined for major stages around the globe, are lovingly carved, stitched, shaped, welded, glued and painted by a small team in a studio in Cape Town.

In June 2010 Handspring Puppet Company, were the recipients of an honorary Tony Award in New York, a distinction marking the culmination of many years of beautiful, thought-provoking puppetry from the company they founded three decades ago. “It’s a wonderful thing to be happening as we hit 30 years of our company and 40 years of our relationship together and 60 years on the planet, (as) we turn 60,” says Jones. This news feature looks at Handspring’s work on War Horse as well as the Handspring Trust’s project in Barrydale.
